Next Goal's The Winner Podcast: My Favourite Goal

The best goal ever scored in a World Cup Final was by Brazil’s Carlos Alberto in 1970.

With Brazil leading 3-1 and the game in its dying embers, the Italians have an attack snuffed out on the Brazil left. The ball is passed to Clodoaldo who effortlessly glides past 4 opponents before laying the ball off to Rivelino. He passes down the line to Jairzinho and the pace picks up as he evades an Italian challenge before passing the ball the Pele in the middle of the park, about 35 yards from goal. At this point, time seems to stand still. Pele holds the ball up before rolling the perfect pass into the path of Carlos Alberto. The Brazil captain steams in and thunders the ball into the corner of the net! 4-1!
